The Hardest Part of Saying Goodbye to Our New Puppies

Saying goodbye to our new puppies turned out to be one of the hardest parts of this year for me, but let me start from the beginning.

Last June, our home became a little noisier, messier, and much more full of life.

Two of our dogs gave birth during the same month. Mocha, our Shih Tzu, gave birth to three tiny puppies. Our Golden Retriever gave birth to eight.

Suddenly, we had eleven new puppies at home.

Newborn puppies with their mother in the first days at home

At first, they were so small and fragile. Most of their days were spent sleeping, drinking milk, and staying close to their mothers.

We have two housemaids who helped care for them during the day, but at night, I would check on them myself.

We worried that their mothers’ breastmilk might not be enough, especially with so many puppies. I started preparing milk for them at night to make sure they were fed.

It became part of my routine.

Even when I was sleepy, I could not ignore their small cries. I wanted to make sure each puppy was comfortable and had enough milk before I went back to bed.

From Tiny Puppies to Playful Little Trouble-Makers

The quiet newborn stage did not last very long.

Soon, they started opening their eyes. Then they began walking, exploring, and following us around.

That was when the real chaos started.

There were messes everywhere. I found myself cleaning one area, only to discover another mess a few minutes later.

Now that they are bigger, they have also entered the stage where they want to bite and chew almost anything they can reach.

Shoes, slippers, boxes, furniture, and random things on the floor suddenly became interesting to them.

They are so makulit, but it is also difficult to stay annoyed when you see their innocent faces.

The house can feel exhausting and noisy, but it also feels happy.

I know I will miss all of it.

I will miss preparing their milk. I will miss watching them sleep together in one small pile.

Their tiny paws, their playful fights, and the way they get excited when someone enters the room, I will miss all of that too.

I will even miss cleaning their messes.

Why Saying Goodbye to Our New Puppies Was Necessary

As much as I would love to keep every puppy, I also have to be realistic.

We do not have enough space for all eleven puppies, especially as they grow into adult dogs.

Keeping them all would not be fair if we could not provide enough room, time, and attention for each one.

This is why we decided to find new families for them.

We do not easily give our puppies to just anyone. In fact, this is one reason why the number of our furbabies keeps growing.

It is difficult for us to trust people with them.

We carefully chose families who understand how to care for dogs. We wanted people who would treat them as family. Not just as pets that could be forgotten once they were no longer small and cute.

As much as possible, we also chose families who would allow us to see the puppies again or send us photos and updates.

Knowing that we can still watch them grow makes the goodbye a little easier.

The Puppy I Could Not Let Go

Among the puppies, there was one I became especially attached to.

I tried to remind myself that we already had many dogs and that we could not keep every puppy.

But sometimes, there is one puppy who quietly finds a permanent place in your heart.

In the end, I decided to keep her.

Maybe this is why giving puppies away is always difficult for me. I get attached to their personalities, their little habits, and the way they look at me.

They may only be with us for a short part of their lives, but during that time, they already become part of our daily routine and our family.

Loving Them Does Not Always Mean Keeping Them

These puppies taught me a lot about patience.

They taught me how to care for something even when I was tired. They reminded me that love can be found in simple things, like preparing milk late at night, cleaning another mess, or checking if everyone is sleeping comfortably.

They also reminded me how quickly time passes.

It feels like they were only tiny newborn puppies a few days ago. Now, they are playful, curious, and ready to start a new chapter with their new families.

Most of all, they taught me that love is not always about holding on.

Sometimes, loving them means accepting that I cannot keep every puppy, even when a part of me wants to.

Giving them to carefully chosen families does not mean that I stopped loving them. It means I am trying to make the best decision for their future.

I may not be the one raising all of them forever. But I will always remember that our home was their first home.

We were there when they were born.

We helped feed them, clean them, protect them, and watch them take their first little steps.

That is something I will always be thankful for.

Saying Goodbye to Our New Puppies

I know the house will feel quieter once they leave.

There will be fewer messes to clean and fewer things being chewed around the house. Life will probably become a little easier again.

But I also know that I will look for them.

I will miss the noise, the playful chaos, and the feeling of eleven puppies running around our home.

Saying goodbye to our new puppies was never going to be easy, even when I know they are going to good families.

Still, I am thankful.

I am thankful that we were able to care for them during their first weeks of life. I am thankful for every sleepy night, every funny moment, and every small memory they gave us.

They may be starting their lives with new families, but a small part of them will always belong to this home.

And a part of my heart will always go with them.
