My Gaming Journey: From Consoles to MMORPGs
A modest yet wonderful gift—a family computer—started my love for gaming. My mom brought it home when I was in second grade, and from then on, gaming became a part of who I am. My siblings and I would play Super Mario, Battle City, and Legend of Kage for hours, teaming up to beat bosses, save princesses, and laugh over every win and loss. But the best part was the fights we had, which generally ended with some type of punishment.
That early console experience was more than simply fun. It was the start of a passion that would stay with me for years.
Discovering PC Games
When I got to fifth grade, I had a bigger gaming universe. I spent many weekends and school breaks at my cousin’s place, where I first played PC games like Diablo, Half-Life, GTA, and StarCraft. These games were so different—strategic, deep, and sometimes very intense.
Diablo stuck with me the most because of its gloomy setting, complex tale, and the thrill of going into dungeons and leveling up my character. They provided me with my initial authentic experience of role-playing games, and I cherished every moment spent playing them. My husband and I recently purchased Diablo IV, as we both have a strong affinity for playing it.
Falling in Love with MMORPGs
When I found Ragnarok Online in 2003, everything changed. Being my first MMORPG, Ragnarok instantly captivated me. It was fun and exciting to explore Midgard, create a party, farm loot, and level up with pals.
My classmates and I would race to our favorite computer store at the mall after school. I saved up my allowance so I could buy load credits and play on the weekends. It wasn’t just a game to play. It was a place where I made friends and where I would later meet my husband. But that’s a different story for another time.

Becoming a Healer
Over time, I tried out new roles and games online. In Dragon Nest, I played as an archer; in Mir4, I played as a mage; and in other MMOs, I played as other classes. But the healer position really spoke to me.
It’s not enough to just cast recovery spells to heal. It’s all about being aware, being on time, and working together. Playing support provided me a sense of purpose, whether it was bringing comrades back to life during combat or giving them a buff to help them. I appreciated the quiet support from my group.
Why Tera Online Is Still My Favorite
Tera Online is still my favorite MMORPG, even after playing a lot of them. The game had everything I wanted: excellent graphics, smooth gameplay, a lot of lore, and collaboration that mattered.
Tera pushed me to be my best as a healer. Dungeons were hard and needed communication, attentiveness, and accuracy. I’ll always remember how good it felt to beat a tough boss after many tries with a superb team.
More Than Just a Game
In the past, gaming has been more than just a hobby. It has helped me grow, taught me how to be patient and cooperate with others, and exposed me to people I might not have met otherwise.
It’s been a secure place to be when things are hectic and a happy place to be when things are quiet. I’ve made friends, learned new things, and even found love through gaming.
From my first console games to furious MMO raids, gaming has always been an important part of my life. And while I keep playing new games and taking on new roles, I still feel the same enthusiasm I did when I first turned on that family computer.
The trip isn’t over yet, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead.
